Room to Read is an international organisation transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income countries across Africa and Asia by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, we target two critical milestones: literacy learning in first and second grades and a girl’s transition into secondary school. In 2015 we reached our goal of impacting 10 million children. By 2020 we anticipate reaching 15 million children.

#IWriteBecause: Everyone has a story to tell, what's yours? 

 
Reedsy, a UK publishing start up, joined forces with Room to Read to launch the #IWriteBecause campaign bringing together a global community of authors and writers in support of global education!   

How it worked? 

Authors and writers submitted inspirational one-minute videos sharing why they write. The initiative connected the widely-dispersed writing community through a common passion by asking the question: why do you write?  

For every video submitted, Reedsy donated $10 to Room to Read. Since its launch, the campaign generated close to 100 videos, 2,100 posts, and reached over 6.7 million people across the globe — and helped raise awareness and funds for our literacy and girls' education programs. 

We were thrilled to partner with Reedsy, which is a proud believer that every child should have access to education, the freedom to raise their voices and share their message with the world.
